Why does each government do nothing to stop the UK becoming just 12 separate regions of an EU Super State?

What happens top them once they get into Downing Street. Does the cat whisper some terrible truth to them at the door or do they just tell flat-out lies to get elected. If so, what is the big deal - why don't they just stand-up and say 'this is the best way to go and these are the reasons why - really argue the case for it.

Speech

David Cameron: Fixing Broken Politics

Rt Hon David Cameron, Tuesday, May 26 2009

.... THE EU AND THE HRA

But the tragic truth today is that no matter how much we strengthen Parliament or hold government to account...

...there will still be forces at work in our country that are completely unaccountable to the people of Britain.

People and organisations that have huge power and control over our daily lives and yet which no citizen can actually get at.

Almost half of all the regulations affecting our businesses come from the EU.

And since the advent of the Human Rights Act, judges are increasingly making our laws.

The EU and the judges - neither of them accountable to British citizens - have taken too much power over issues that are contested aspects of public policy...

...and which should therefore be settled in the realm of democratic politics.

It's no wonder people feel so disillusioned with politics and Parliament when they see so many big decisions that affect their lives being made somewhere else.

So a progressive reform agenda demands that we redistribute power from the EU to Britain and from judges to the people.

We will therefore hold a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty, pass a law requiring a referendum to approve any further transfers of power to the EU, negotiate the return of powers, and require far more detailed scrutiny in Parliament of EU legislation, regulation and spending.

What a load of rot! 100% Tosh!|||Because no anti-EU people are allowed into positions of power. The Lisbon Treaty abolished Britain on 1st January 2009

This sixth and final EU treaty formally replaced Britain with the European Union on 1st January 2009. This is a year before the deadline set by the Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel.

The Treaty "takes primacy" over the British Constitution which it thereby abolished, and with it the nations of Britain and England; it gives the EU the power to close our Westminster Parliament. The Lisbon Treaty was our Anschluss - It took 4 years for the founder of the EEC, Adolf Hitler, to turn Austria into a full police state after he annexed it. Similarly it will take the EU 3-4 years to consolidate its power.

The Treaty sets up an unelected three tier politburo executive in Brussels with absolute power, a dictatorship on the Soviet model.|||The simple answer is to stay in power the Tories have to have the support of the Lib Dems so all that he did say has gone out of the window. Thankyou Mr Glegg.|||MPs can say what they like, break as many promises as they like, because the British do not react to anything. Placid response is about the British limit. Even little strutting Hitlers in local councils bark out their orders as the servile British snap obediently to attention and do exactly as they are told. They act like farm animals to be herded around,So that's the way they are treated. Its hardly rocket science is it. Grow some balls, stand up to be counted.......or be quiet and do as you are told.|||I was always told, "never employ anyone who is a good talker". That's all they can do, talk. All fart and no crap. There is no doubt that the big naive overgrown public school boy inherited a mess but all his tough pre-election rhetoric has long since faded away.Q;- How do you know when a politician is lying? A;- When you see his lips move.

Will I be ok? (insulin-overdose suicide attempt)?

Last school year I tried committing suicide by an insulin overdose (I'm a diabetic). Basically, per meal I generally take 1-2 units of Novolin R, whereas on my suicide attempt I took 100.

I did it because I have gynecomastia (man-boobs) and I'd let a relation with the only girl I've ever loved with every fiber of my being sour because of my fear getting close to her because of my condition. When she misinterpreted my motives and actions because of this, thinking at first that I was way too under confident and then that I didn't really like her at all when the reality was I was DESPERATELY in love with her---I finally, over break, sent her an email with a picture of myself explaining why I'd acted the way I did.

Well I didn't hear back from her for the rest of winter break and I started having anxiety attacks and letting myself go. Over the next semester, between constantly thinking about her and feeling like a piece of **** generally because I felt like I was spiraling downward, it started to affect my classes and work. I started to fail one class, and began having difficulties with another. I ended up having to withdraw both. At this point I felt like life was completely kicking my *** and that's when I plunged the syringe in.

It wasn't until I nearly died and only saved myself by eating a bunch of sugary junk food (for a diabetic, a case of the "cure" being almost as bad as the disease) that I suddenly--for the first time in my life--came to truly have self-esteem and value myself as an individual.

I was the Assistant Editor of the school paper because I was thoughtful and passionate about the issues and was an excellent writer. I'd met and volunteered for Obama in Iowa for the first caucus. I was one of the top students in the economics program at my small university. I could never see--or maybe just not accept it--but I was incredibly fit as well, after years of having tried to blast away my gyno primarily through exercise and at times through diet as well. I was generally regarded as smart, cool, and funny--and even attractive! (of course, I only remotely felt like it when I was doing a good job of covering up my moobs...)

While I lived that night, my health felt absolutely deteriorated for the next several months. I started to frantically wonder what I'd done--if I'd truly destroyed myself and made a cripple of myself for life.

There was a constant burning aching in my side, by my waist near the right side of my hip (what organ is that?!). I constantly absurdly sluggish and got easily winded--much more so than before. While I had lived from the suicide attempt, I started to wonder if I'd permanently disabled myself for life...enough to occasionally once more prompt suicidal thoughts again--though certainly not with insulin.

Well, the school year's passed and I've found a wonderful college and program I'll be transferring to in the fall. While I think at one point I nearly lost my job as Assistant Editor I was able to hold my **** together long enough to finish the year out with that job with honors and to do well in my remaining two classes.

Most importantly, my health has definitely felt much better. I havn't been under health insurance since I was 18 and was no longer eligible for KidCare, but I went to a community center at the start of the summer and was able to have some bloodwork done for cheap. The bloodwork came back fine, and as far as those tests go I'm healthy. It's reassuring for sure, because those tests concern primarily the kidneys and liver I believe, and as a diabetic those are the regions I was primarily concerned in.

But though less intense, there's still the slight aching on my side ever since that time I tried to commit suicide...the community center couldn't afford to have given me X-Rays. The University I'm at now charges you $200 a year for their health plan yet it can only be used for emergencies...I have to wait until I transfer to even have a shot at an X-Ray and a real medical diagnosis.

---

Some days I still wake up haunted by that girl's memory, and I'm not sure if it's for all the wrong reasons. I can't wait to cut ties from this place and start my new life at a new university. I'm positive that for the past half year I'd flashed intermittently between sanity and near-psychotic dementia as my mind reeled at everything that had taken place.

Anyway, that's my life story. Do you think I'll be ok?|||I honestly do not think the pain and weakness you felt after overdosing on insulin, has to do with it. Insulin should not have those side effects on your body, although out of control sugar levels can. I can’t even imagine how you recovered from 100 units of insulin with out medical attention!! That should have made your blood sugar crash quicker than you could stuff any food in your mouth. In any case, it sounds like you are moving forward in a positive direction. Leaving your school and ex love behind will help heal the emotional damage. While you are continuing at another school I would also advise you take up some healthy activities like a sport or new hobby. Maybe just regular trips to the gym when you can. This can improve your overall health GREATLY and also give you new positive things to focus on other than the past. Set up some new goals and focus on those. Being a diabetic can be tricky and throw out some obstacles, but the more positive and healthy you are the easier they are to overcome.

Previously when you were feeling “less intelligent” and weaker, you could have been just experiencing effects of depression or anxiety which can definitely make you feel the way you did. EVERYONE experiences that to some degree at one point in their life. If there is a serious medical issue going on, make the sacrifice and see a dr, even if it costs a pretty penny. You should have family that could help you out with that. If you don’t feel like it’s a serious issue, then work on lil healthy changes to help in the mean time like surrounding yourself with positive and supportive people, focusing on school and new goals, as well as a healthy diet and some activity. I guarantee you these things will make a huge difference, not only in how you feel about yourself, but also in brining you out of your shell.

Hopefully you will eventually land a job which offers benefits and you can see your Dr on a regular basis, which every diabetic should do. In the meantime there should be government assisted programs for medical care, or through your school. Also depending on how old you are, you can be eligible for benefits from your parents if they receive insurance through their work.

Health is physical as well as mental. You can heal both. Best of luck to you and make the most of this next chapter in your life!!!!|||The most common and well-documented reactions to hypoglycemia include biting the tongue, back pain and hip joint troubles.

Cognitively, there are well-documented studies showing the severe hypoglycemia destroys neurons in the frontal lobe, consistent with your symptoms.

If they refuse which they won't the city or the county you live in does have somebody to help you (if not Catholic Charities or most religious organizations always can provide you with this service for free).

It could do you wonders at helping you resolve issues that are deeply bothering you.

It is with the utmost sincerity that I say this to you.

Btw I'm not away of any long term affects from 100U of insulin, but I must say that couldn't have felt good (regarding the hypoglycemic event you induced). AND Thank You for eating the necessary quantity of sugar to stay alive. Please don't do this again you ARE needed in this world whether you believe it or not.|||I cannot answer your question regarding the pain in your right side with any accuracy....but methinks it could be the appendix (perhaps it has encapsulated and is a ticking time bomb) or something with your colon. That's the only thing in that general area.... Hmmmm? I did want to address the issue of suicide. You lived for a reason and dear heart the reason is NOT, NOT to do it again. A long time ago, in a land far away, I did the same thing....with a bunch of anti-depressants. It is my humble opinion that no matter how bleak, hopeless, awful, hurtful, or crappy the situation is....suicide will not make it better. (sort of a joke there) But TIME and maturity and life and change and growth and experience will make it better. Looking back at that era of my life.....what a dummy I was! How silly we are when we are young sometimes. And here YOU are with all these gifts!! Don't waste what you've been given....look ahead....you have a very bright future and YES, I think you will be ok!

How effective is washing hands with running water alone in washing off germs/bacteria/viruses?

In general, I tend to just wash my hands and stuff. I already posted a question elsewhere but I want to ask it differently. So, I was in the shower feeling nauseated so I stick my fingers down my throat and try to puke up, not much came out. Throat was just sore at this point. So, I wash up a little more, scrub my nether regions and well, I have warts and am gettin treated for it now. So, I don't think to much, just run the shower over my hands for a few seconds and then go to relieve myself of the nauseating feeling and stick my fingers down my throat and upon realisation that I used the same hands to scrub down there and my throat, I really felt dizzy. I'm scared abt the possibility of transferring the virus. So, how effective is washing off viruses with simply running water? How high are the chances of transmission this way?|||yes - you have to use soap and water to wash. water by itself is ineffective.|||just soap and water is all you need, but hey i don't think you gave your self warts in your throat.Next time you feel nauseated don't try and trow up.your body knows when it needs to trow up no need to force it.

Q : Some people prefer to live in a small town. Others prefer to live in a big city. Which place would

you prefer to live in? Use specific reasons and details to support your answer.

With inflation or economic development, there has been constant rise in price of goods, from food and clothing to house that we must have as one of the needs. Big cities became crowded with people who came to look for work and opportunity, what鈥檚 making the situation even worse. Despite the phenomena, I prefer to live in a big city rather than a small one because of its better accessibility and quality of education.

First, living in a big city gives you good accessibility. Big city tend to have lots of spots for different purposes; ranging from public offices, workplaces, to entertainments. Also, big city usually has well-organized transportation system. For instance, whenever there鈥檚 a big public event in my country, it is often held in the capital city. So, I, who lives in the city easily attend those events, taking advantage of systematized transportation whether it鈥檚 a bit far or not. In contrast, my cousin who lives in countryside, he can hardly have a chance due to the distance between the venue of events and his house.

Furthermore, big city provides more advanced and higher quality of education. As many people are in a big city, respective a number of schools are established according to the people鈥檚 demands. Supply of specialized schools and private institutions in big city exceeds those of small city. Then, students in big city surely have great chance for better education. Recently, there was a comparative report by government of my country showing the gap of academic achievement between students in big cities and small cities. Though the figures depend upon each city, it was clear that there must have been different level of education in compared regions.

I would like to sum up by saying as one lives in a big city, he or she will be much mobile when transferring place to place and offered incentive education which is so comparable with that of small city. The longer the government leaves off this problem, the more will the gap increases. It is surely good to invest in big cities, however, simultaneously, no matter where the education is for, balancing is needed.|||Hi Jun,

I teach TOEFL preparation in Houston, Texas. You essay is well organized. It has a clear thesis statement which ties in nicely to the topic sentences of the supporting paragraphs.

However, there is a usage problem with the word "accessibility." This word is used to indicate how easy or difficult it is to access a particular place, object, or person from a certain location. For example, complaining about the design of a car, one could say that the controls for the air conditioner are not accessible from the passenger seat.

The accessibility of a city refers to how easy (or difficult) it is to access that city. Are there many highways which lead into the city? Does it have its own airport? Or there heliports available? Ports?

However, your first supporting paragraph refers to accessibility of workplaces and entertainment venues within a city. So, you are contrasting the accessibility of workplaces and entertainment venues in a city to the difficulty of getting to those in a small town. This is different from what you have written in your thesis ('it's better accessibility"). Your thesis statement must be more focused and clearer.

You are making errors with count nouns. You write

"Big city tend to have lots of spots for different ..."

This should be, Big cities. . .

Later on you write

". . .private institutions in big city exceeds those of small city."

This is wrong! Remember that "city" is a count noun, so it is either "a big city" or "big cities".

Your conclusion is confusing. You write

". . .offered incentive education which is so comparable with that of small city."

You are writing that the education in a big city is comparable (the same) as to that of a small city. This is the opposite of what you have written in your second supporting paragraph! Also, at the end of the introduction, you are moving away from the prompt. The investment in education by the government is off topic and does not belong in this paper. Stay focused on whether it is better to live in a big city or a small town.

Another mistake which you make is that you confuse a small town (mentioned in the prompt) with a small city (which you mention in your second supporting paragraph). Small towns are not cities. A small town has 5000 to 15,000 people. A small city has 250,000 people. These are not the same.

Essay Score: 21

To improve your score

* Stay focused on the prompt

* Make sure that you use precise vocabulary

* Pay attention to subject-verb agreement

I am a junior Elementary Education major, and I love kids, but I really want a career that lets me to travel?

I am seriously considering what I'm doing with my life at this point and it is tormenting me. I transferred to a CSU from a UC in January 2009, which probably doesn't seem like a wise transition in the eyes of many, but I did this because I really wanted to go to a smaller school and get out of Southern California. Anyhow, after debating what I should study, I decided to go with Elementary Education because I love children and feel that this country needs to get its educational priorities on track. However, my goal in life is to find a job that allows me to travel to different regions in the world. I just discovered the field of geography and now I wish I would have majored in that instead. This is my problem.

First of all, I feel like I really messed up by transferring from UC Irvine to Humboldt State University. Although I love HSU, I feel like it won't look good on my resume, compared to a UC grad. Secondly, I've been thinking about going for a second Bachelor's degree in Geography at a different college after I graduate. Otherwise, I'm considering going into a graduate program for education. Which option is better?|||Department of Defense has schools all over. You can teach and travel too.

Help dealing with Section 8 and other govt. agencies.?

How to get help dealing with Section 8 and other govt. agencies.?

I've been having a really difficult time trying to get answers let alone a return phone call from the local housing authority. They are saying your rent can't exceed the payment standard, while HUD says it may and the tenant can pay the difference. I believe this is where the percentage of your income that you pay comes into play. Example: it's always mentioned that you can pay between 30-40% of your income. My understanding is that the extra 10% is the amount that can go towards any amount above the payment standard for your voucher size. However, I'm not positive as I can't get a return phone call.

I've tried the local PHA, then I tried the HUD 1-800 number and they didn't seem to know much, but gave me another 800 number where I've left messages and got no return phone call. Then I called the local HUD office that oversees the different regions of my state and got no return phone call.

I realize that different counties can implement rules a bit differently than others. However, since I'm transferring from another county and was told several things incorrectly by them and found out by researching and pursuing the matter that they were actually incorrect, I'm having a hard time taking anything the county I'm transferring says at face value.

HUD mentions several exceptions for the disabled, etc... that the local office seems to have no knowledge of. I just want to use due diligence and make sure things are being done properly.

I'd like to know if there's any place I can turn to that would help me get the answers and respect I need. I'm wondering if there's any advocacy group or social worker, etc. that would help in this situation?

Also, would like the same type of help when dealing with medicaid/food stamps. I've missed out on over 1,200 dollars in benefits and been without health care at times because they "lose" things.

I try to be proactive and do the best I can, but often get nowhere.|||They are correct, rent can not exceed the standard and it is a felony for the tenant to pay the difference, welfare fraud. You misunderstood what you read on HUD.

You pay 30% of your income to rent, section 8 pays the rest, but the total rent can not exceed their limit. No counties implement these basic rules differently, these are federal guidelines.

You get help from your local office, your case worker IS a social worker. No other counties are going to help you, in fact no one other then your specific case worker will deal with your case.|||Go into the local Housing Authority in your county in person and speak with your case worker that is assigned to you. You are wrong in how you think this works. You pay about 33% of your income for your rent payment and the Housing Authority in your county that issues the voucher pays the rest. Every jurisdiction has different guidelines for rent amounts you can pay. In my county the Housing Authority sets a one-bedroom for one person at a maximum rent of $1250 which is the market rate so if I find one for $1400 I am not allowed to rent it and pay the landlord on the side. That is a violation of Sec 8 policy and there are severe penalties for these infractions of their rules. You have to find an apartment which rents for under their maximum amount for that size unit. If I have two children my voucher entitles me to a 2-bedroom apartment and a higher maximum rent allowed.

Why did people request that Jesus leave town after he transferred demons from humans into pig bodies?

He cured the men but they asked him to leave.

Matthew 8:28-34 (New International Version)

"When he arrived at the other side in the region of the Gadarenes, two demon-possessed men coming from the tombs met him. They were so violent that no one could pass that way. "What do you want with us, Son of God?" they shouted. "Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?"

Some distance from them a large herd of pigs was feeding. The demons begged Jesus, "If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs." He said to them, "Go!" So they came out and went into the pigs, and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and died in the water.

Those tending the pigs ran off, went into the town and reported all this, including what had happened to the demon-possessed men. Then the whole town went out to meet Jesus. And when they saw him, they pleaded with him to leave their region."|||Large numbers of Gentiles lived in this area of Galilee. Normally Jews did not raise pigs as they were the most unclean of all animals. But Jesus was met by the demon possessed men as he got off the boat, dealt with that problem, then faced the fear of the towns-people. They were probably more concerned about their financial loss than about the deliverance of their neighbours who had been set free! Typical of unspiritual people, don't you think? They cared more about money than about people. Jesus was the opposite way around.|||After what he did to the pigs they probably didn't want him destroying the rest of the livestock. He should have paid compensation to the swine herders for destroying their livelihoods as well, the typical do-gooding busybody.|||They were afraid of him and didn't want him "disturbing the peace" They thought he might cause them to be posessed by demons.|||All their bacon had just thrown itself into the sea, they were pissed.

Transferring from lower level university to a top 50 university, can it be done?

So my high school years were not the best. I was a C student my 9th and 10th grade years but an A student my 11th and 12th grade years. Didn't have much help in the college admissions game, made a 1790 on my SAT, and I was not able to have the good picks. Rejected from my state university (UGA) and I was accepted into some out of state colleges but the out of state tuition kicked in and we found that we couldn't afford it.

Well now I will be heading to the local tier 4 University, I really believe that I have improve significantly, I attended a magnet school so classes were tougher and I didn't have much prep for the SAT. In the honors program at the university I will be attending.

Hypothetically speaking: Say I manage to maintain a 4.0 GPA at the university I will be attending, put together a good resume (volunteer work and ECs), retake the SAT with prep and make around a 2000 SAT score, would I be able to get into a top 50 university?

Also I am looking to get into one that is out of state, kind of bored of Georgia and hoping to get to a newer state, preferably a newer region (upper south or maybe Northeast).|||a thousand times yes. just because you ask a million times doesn't mean the answer will change. it can be done and has been done. you can do it, too, if you pay attention to your studies and stop asking the same questions a frillion times.

love,

someone who transferred from a crappy state school to the ivy league|||The best college finder is http://TopEducationFinder.info

You should try them. It's totally free , and it is the most trusted online company for finding education.

Really hope I'll help|||If you maintain a 4.0 GPA and have extracurricular activities you will definitely be able to transfer to a top 50 university. Many of the ones I've done research on, in particular, the different Universities of California, are in the top 50 and do not have extremely high requirements. However, you should contact the school you wish to transfer to in order to obtain more information. In addition, you won't need to retake the SAT to transfer. (Even if you had, however, schools like UC Davis which is currently ranked 44, I believe, have an average SAT score of 1700 or 1800).

Why is Cheney still fearmongering about releasing innocent people from Gitmo?

Ex-Bush admin official: Many at Gitmo are innocent

By ANDREW O. SELSKY, Associated Press Writer Andrew O. Selsky, Associated Press Writer 鈥?40 mins ago

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico 鈥?Many detainees locked up at Guantanamo were innocent men swept up by U.S. forces unable to distinguish enemies from noncombatants, a former Bush administration official said Thursday. "There are still innocent people there," Lawrence B. Wilkerson, a Republican who was chief of staff to then-Secretary of State Colin Powell, told The Associated Press. "Some have been there six or seven years."

Wilkerson, who first made the assertions in an Internet posting on Tuesday, told the AP he learned from briefings and by communicating with military commanders that the U.S. soon realized many Guantanamo detainees were innocent but nevertheless held them in hopes they could provide information for a "mosaic" of intelligence.

"It did not matter if a detainee were innocent. Indeed, because he lived in Afghanistan and was captured on or near the battle area, he must know something of importance," Wilkerson wrote in the blog. He said intelligence analysts hoped to gather "sufficient information about a village, a region, or a group of individuals, that dots could be connected and terrorists or their plots could be identified."

Wilkerson, a retired Army colonel, said vetting on the battlefield during the early stages of U.S. military operations in Afghanistan was incompetent with no meaningful attempt to discriminate "who we were transporting to Cuba for detention and interrogation."

Navy Cmdr. Jeffrey Gordon, a Pentagon spokesman, declined to comment on Wilkerson's specific allegations but noted that the military has consistently said that dealing with foreign fighters from a wide variety of countries in a wartime setting was a complex process. The military has insisted that those held at Guantanamo were enemy combatants and posed a threat to the United States.

In his posting for The Washington Note blog, Wilkerson wrote that "U.S. leadership became aware of this lack of proper vetting very early on and, thus, of the reality that many of the detainees were innocent of any substantial wrongdoing, had little intelligence value, and should be immediately released."

Former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and Vice President Dick Cheney fought efforts to address the situation, Wilkerson said, because "to have admitted this reality would have been a black mark on their leadership."

Wilkerson told the AP in a telephone interview that many detainees "clearly had no connection to al-Qaida and the Taliban and were in the wrong place at the wrong time. Pakistanis turned many over for $5,000 a head."

Some 800 men have been held at Guantanamo since the prison opened in January 2002, and 240 remain. Wilkerson said two dozen are terrorists, including confessed Sept. 11 plotter Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, who was transferred to Guantanamo from CIA custody in September 2006.

"We need to put those people in a high-security prison like the one in Colorado, forget them and throw away the key," Wilkerson said. "We can't try them because we tortured them and didn't keep an evidence trail."

But the rest of the detainees need to be released, he said.

Wilkerson, who flew combat missions as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam and left the government in January 2005, said he did not speak out while in government because some of the information was classified. He said he feels compelled to do so now because Cheney has claimed in recent press interviews that President Barack Obama is making the U.S. less safe by reversing Bush administration policies toward terror suspects, including ordering Guantanamo closed.

The administration is now evaluating what to do with the prisoners who remain at the U.S. military base in Cuba.

"I'm very concerned about the kinds of things Cheney is saying to make it seem Obama is a danger to this republic," Wilkerson said. "To have a former vice president fearmongering like this is really, really dangerous."

26.jun.2009.China's GuangDong Province , ShaoGuan city. Whole City attacking Innocent Uyghur workers and killed many of them and wounded hundreds.

In June 29, 2009 more than 8000 Chinese workers attack 600 young Uyghur men and women at midnight wile Uyghurs were sleeping in their dormitory, killed 26 including women and injured 118 in Guang Dong toy factory. Those Uyghur men and women were brought to the Chinese factories for forced, cheap and slavery labor under the Chinese government forced relocation policy on Uyghurs. Each year millions of Uyghurs were forced transferred to inland China, mostly women and they replaced with millions of Han Chinese. Those Han Chinese were brought to Uyghur land was offered with free housing, cash and immediate job opportunity with good salary.

ETIC is closely monitoring human rights situation of Uyghurs in China through variety of Chinese state media and Uyghur sources. In June 29, Han Chinese workers attacked innocent Uyghur workers with metal pipes. The excuse for the attack was an unsubstantiated rumor posted on the Internet of the rape of two ethnic Chinese women.

“This is an example of how racial profiling leads to oppression of innocents Uyghurs” said Abdujelil Karakash , the president of ETIC “ Uyghurs relize this time, the Chinese communist government and Chinese people has no difference. They were both racist!”

Uyghurs in East Turkistan were uninformed by the truth of the news. Most of Uyghurs have no excess for the internet under the Chinese government strict internet control policy.

Chinese government is worrying Uyghurs revenge and intensified pressure again on Uyghurs. However, some Uyghur intellectuals who find out the truth, posted messages on Uyghur web sites in East Turkistan and call Chinese people to shame on their inhuman behavior. They also wrote that Uyghurs will not going to do such crime against humanity to take revenge.

ETIC strongly condemn China’s racist system that encouraged racism among Han Chinese against the Uyghurs and call world community to take action to protect Uyghur nation that in danger of being attack both Chinese government and Chinese people.

Posted: 06 July 2009

The ethnic identity of Uighurs in western China is being systematically eroded. Government policies, including those that limit use of the Uighur language, severe restrictions on freedom of religion, and a sustained influx of Han Chinese migrants into the region, are destroying customs and, together with employment discrimination, fuelling discontent and ethnic tensions. The government has mounted an aggressive campaign that has led to the arrest and arbitrary detention of thousands of Uighurs on charges of 'terrorism, separatism and religious extremism' for peacefully exercising their human rights.

Uighurs are a Turkic speaking, mainly Sunni Islamic ethnic group with a long history at the heart of central Asia. In China, they are concentrated in the western region of the country, an area historically claimed by competing empires, warlords and ethnic groups. In 1949, the region was integrated into the People's Republic of China. In 1955, the People's Republic of China established the Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region (XUAR), in recognition of the Uighurs' predominance in the region, a status which according to the Chinese Constitution entitles ethnic minorities to organs of self-government in order to exercise autonomy.

According to the latest Chinese census in 2000, there are more than 18 million people living in the XUAR, of whom 47 per cent are Uighurs, 40 per cent are Han Chinese and 12 per cent are other ethnic groups, including Kazakhs, Kyrgyzs, Tatars, Uzbeks and Tajiks. The Han Chinese population has increased significantly from an estimated 6 per cent in 1949 due to central government policies that include providing financial incentives to Han Chinese who migrate to the region.

Fuel For Discontent - discrimination and forced labour

The Chinese state has failed to protect Uighurs from employment discrimination which has resulted in extremely high rates of unemployment among Uighurs in the XUAR and fuelled discontent. Many Uighurs report seeing 'Uighurs need not apply' signs posted by employers at job fairs demonstrating the state's inaction in enforcing anti-discrimination laws. Even university graduates who speak fluent Chinese have difficulty finding employment.

The XUAR is the only area of China where the general population (non-prisoners) is systematically subject to a government policy of forced labour. Under a system referred to as 'hashar', farming families are fined if they fail to send a family member, sometimes several times each year, to labour on agricultural, infrastructural and other public works for up to two to three weeks at a time. The individuals are given no compensation for their labour, no room or board, and are expected to pay their own transportation costs. Many describe sleeping out in the open and eating nothing but instant noodles for days while doing hard labour. Families that do not have an able-bodied young man to send are not

exempt - men and women as old as 70, and children as young as 12, are reported by Uighurs to have participated.

The systematic erosion of Uighur ethnic identity by the Chinese authorities is characterised by repression and human rights abuses. The Chinese authorities must immediately reverse policies that limit use of the Uighur language and severely restrict freedom of religion and Uighurs' ability to enjoy and replicate their culture.

Repression In The Name Of The 'War On Terror'

The post-Mao era in the 1980s brought liberalising policies throughout China that allowed citizens greater freedom, including freedom of religion and expression, and strengthened legal protections, policies which extended to the XUAR. However, in the mid to late 1990s, Uighurs in the region experienced a sharp reversal in policy,as the authorities embarked on an aggressive campaign against the 'three evils': 'terrorism, separatism and religious extremism'. As a result, increased numbers of Uighurs have been subjected to arbitrary arrests, unfair trials and torture, and their economic, social and cultural rights have been slowly eroded. This has worsened since the attacks in the USA on 11 September 2001 as the authorities cast Uighur discontent within the framework of interna|||Because it's not the commies, it's the Han workers pissed out after hearing the Uighur raped two Han women. And it's was a fight, it's not like the Han workers have tanks to masscre the Uighurs outright. Both side used iron bars and knifes to hit each other on the head. The result of the brawl is hundreds of people injured on both sides, and two Uighurs died. The police arrested more than 40 workers associated with the fight and they are in the process of being tried. Stop spreading lies.|||Turkish Show TV quote 9th July 2009

"Since 26th June 09, Chinese killed and tried to ethnically cleanse more than 2000 Uyghurs and more than 10000 people are detained or missing"

How many animals do think like humans?

Responsible people set limits and won't cross ethical boundaries.

Those who behave irresponsibly must be held liable for any harm they cause.|||Not sure exactly what your definition of a "lion" is, but I'm all for free markets. Michigan Gun Laws/Questions?

1. I read somewhere that 18 year olds can buy handguns for nonCPL use obviously, from private sales with only a purchase permit, no FFL. Has anyone done this and/or care to explain?

2. What would be the process of transferring the title of the shotgun that my mom bought me into my name when I turn 18 here soon?

3. Lastly, can anyone throw out names of used gun shops in and around southeastern Michigan? Websites that list private sales based in this region would be helpful too.

Thanks everybody!|||1: This is false. You can legally own a handgun, but only if it was a gift from a family member. You still must go to the local police department and ask for a "license to purchase," and fill it out and return it within 10 days. It cannot be a sale, it must be a gift.

2: There is no such thing as a title for a long gun in Michigan. If its yours, its yours.

3: One of the best is Jerry's guns in Rochester. If you're looking for a private sale, the best place to go would be the Birch Run Gun Show, which is coming up.

edit: The paperwork filled out for purchase is the BATFE form 4473. It is required by federal law for an FFL transfer, and contains the info used when the dealer calls in the NICS check. It is not however any sort of registration. The dealer will keep a copy of it in his files, and will only surrender it to a law enforcement officer upon request for a legitimate investigation. It is not (supposedly) contained in any central registration system. Your mother can simply hand you the gun and tell you its yours; and that's all that's legally required.|||1. Don't know

2. There is no title to a shotgun. Our fair state does not require registering long guns.

3. I've been away from metro Detroit too long to know all the players in the gun market, but check the gun and knife shows at the Gibraltar Trade Centers. You could also try Leroy's Guns in Fenton, if that's still in business.

What do you think of Nick Clegg's ambitions to give up UK nuclear arms & hand more control to the EU...?

...because we know the french %26amp; german elites adore Britain.

If there was any political unrest regarding transfers of power to Brussels then they can always send EU forces to "calm" the situation (excuse the use of polite but deadly language - as emanates from Brussels these days) in this region of Europe [not sovereign nation, anymore]. Not to despair - Obama's America will always bail us out won't they?|||It's not just his ambitions... the Liberal Democrats have had these kinds of idiotic policies for a long while. Clearly they are perfectly happy to see Britain abolished, and defenceless when somewhere like North Korea finally develops nuclear missiles of their own.

The only realistic attitude to take with the EU is to recognise that we're better off in it than just a little nation on the outside, but to fight our corner at every turn when it comes up with yet another stupid idea to disadvantage Britain. You won't be surprised to hear I'm voting Conservative.|||I think they are not Nick Clegg's ambitions at all,but desperate lies by Labour and Conservatives who are terrified of their cosy government cartel being broken up by a party not beholden to either big business or the unions.

The Liberal Democrats are NOT,REPEAT,NOT giving up the UK nuclear deterrent,

They want Trident included in the next Strategic Defence Review that all parties agree is needed.

A like -for-like replacement for Trident is not necessarily the best option - as four senior British generals wrote in The Times yesterday.

Generals are not notably soft on defence of the nation.

As for handing more control to the EU,they propose to get involved and fight Britain's corner more effectively - as opposed to Cameron's pick-and-mix shilly-shallying on the fringes.

They also propose an "in or out" referendum.

And they are not unpopular in Europe for cosying up to far-right minority parties the way the Tories did,to the despair of Ken Clarke and other mainstream Conservatives.|||The UK, like France developed independent nuclear deterrents, in the late 1940s, with memories of two world wars still fresh and particularly the events of 1940. and the then terrifying nuclear armed Joseph Stalin.

While it is true, the most immediate nuclear threat, would be a terrorist detonating a so called"dirty bomb!. however remember the future threat from China, which for diplomatic reasons, front line politicians dare not discuss.

China remains like the Soviat union, during, the late forties, in all but, its economic policy.|||I would be suprised if he had said anything different.Thats what liberals do.pulling britain down and letting in even more immigrants than brown,if thats possible. If Dave would say what most people think and stop being a big girls blouse, clegg would stand no chance.|||Irrelevant, as he will never be Prime Minister.

Even if the Lib Dems get 35% of the vote they will still have fewer seats that either of the other two parties.

That's how our "democratic" electoral system works.|||It is a school boys dream and that is not a reality.|||Those are purely ambitions to get votes.

It won't happen, so I would ignore it.|||i think he fell out with the UKIP leader and is just doing it to wind them up.

oj .. i dunno tbh :)|||They are not giving up the UK's nuclear arms, they say that they will not exclude Trident from a review of the UK's defences. They are not talking about disarmament, they're talking about looking for cheaper alternatives. I don't think it's a very good idea relying on the US to make our nuclear weapons. I think it's time we had a British made nuclear deterrent. In the long run I believe this will be best for the country. The contracts are already signed till 2015 anyway, it's after that where the debate takes a hold. Investing now in a new deterrent can save us billions down the road.

When it comes to the EU, there's no point dilly-dallying on the edges. We should either be in or out. The problem is if we were to pull out now the rest of the EU would block our exports, they're very sly protectionists in the EU and this would severely hurt the UK. So for the next term we have to get everything we can out of the EU in terms of financial support etc.|||When Trident was introduced, nuclear weapons were limited to USA, USSR, PRC, UK and France. That was it. It was sold on the idea of deterrent, and it worked despite opposition from Labour and the Libdems. After all is said and done, there was no nuclear war, and they have not been used.

Another point was that we don't know what will happen in the future. Well, the future has arrived, India and Pakistan have nuclear weapons, that stable and peace loving regime in North Korea have them, and those western loving friends of freedom and democracy Iran have them.

Does anybody think that allowing North Korea and Iran the ability to use nuclear blackmail, or even to use these weapons is a good idea? No! That is why you need the deterrent.

Now think ahead 20-40 years. Who will have the weapons then? What stable states will we have to trust, Libya maybe, perhaps a new Mugabe with his love of all things white and european? That is why the nuclear deterrent is essential to the security of the UK.

The EU, notably France and Germany, were against protecting the Falklands. The Germans and French caused 'Black Wednesday' in the last tory administration when they refused to uphold the ERM (Exchange Rate Mechanism) stability pact. They left the pound to nose dive because they thought it was in their own national interest. See any parallels with what they are doing to Greece in the Euro Zone ( son of ERM). Who next will be let down by the Germans and French? The Spanish or the Italians or the Irish or the Portuguese?

Can you trust a europe controlled by nations who talk about solidarity but put their own narrow self interest first?

This is just froth for the masses as clegg puts into practice that which he learnt in Brussels as a junior aide and MEP.

A swift reality check by the electorate will see this appeasement of his european masters for what it is.

As for the US, it was late for the last 2 battles for global democracy, and was quite happy to see the UK sink if it was making a profit. It wasn't until it was attacked, and germany declared war upon it, that it came in on the side of the righteous. What makes anyone think they will stand for UK democracy next time, especially if they can make a profit selling arms and goods to both sides as they did 1939-1941.

How angry would you get if you couldn't get tickets to see your favourite band?

A gig by heavy metal band Iron Maiden has ended in tears in Colombia after ticketless fans desperate to hear their heroes began to riot.

Over 100 people were arrested on Saturday as clashes broke out in the Colombian capital city Bogota, several hours before the band was due to play.

Police fired tear gas canisters at those who tried to enter the concert grounds without purchasing tickets.

Colombian media reported one police officer was hit when fans started throwing rocks.

Police officer Rolando Arturo Girata spoke from his hospital bed, saying he had been transferred there after being struck in the face.

Iron Maiden manager Rod Smallwood said only a minority of fans were involved and called on authorities not to react by banning metal acts.

He told Sky News Online:"We abhor the inane behaviour of a small minority of people outside.

"They do Iron Maiden, metal and the real Colombian fans a disservice and sadly just provide a reason for the military to feel they need to be there.

ScienceDaily (Aug. 26, 2010) 鈥?Imagine devices that capture electricity from the air 鈥?much like solar cells capture sunlight 鈥?and using them to light a house or recharge an electric car. Imagine using similar panels on the rooftops of buildings to prevent lightning before it forms. Strange as it may sound, scientists already are in the early stages of developing such devices, according to a report presented at the 240th National Meeting of the American Chemical Society (ACS).

"Our research could pave the way for turning electricity from the atmosphere into an alternative energy source for the future," said study leader Fernando Galembeck, Ph.D. His research may help explain a 200-year-old scientific riddle about how electricity is produced and discharged in the atmosphere. "Just as solar energy could free some households from paying electric bills, this promising new energy source could have a similar effect," he maintained.

"If we know how electricity builds up and spreads in the atmosphere, we can also prevent death and damage caused by lightning strikes," Galembeck said, noting that lightning causes thousands of deaths and injuries worldwide and millions of dollars in property damage.

The notion of harnessing the power of electricity formed naturally has tantalized scientists for centuries. They noticed that sparks of static electricity formed as steam escaped from boilers. Workers who touched the steam even got painful electrical shocks. Famed inventor Nikola Tesla, for example, was among those who dreamed of capturing and using electricity from the air. It's the electricity formed, for instance, when water vapor collects on microscopic particles of dust and other material in the air. But until now, scientists lacked adequate knowledge about the processes involved in formation and release of electricity from water in the atmosphere, Galembeck said. He is with the University of Campinas in Campinas, SP, Brazil.

Scientists once believed that water droplets in the atmosphere were electrically neutral, and remained so even after coming into contact with the electrical charges on dust particles and droplets of other liquids. But new evidence suggested that water in the atmosphere really does pick up an electrical charge.

Galembeck and colleagues confirmed that idea, using laboratory experiments that simulated water's contact with dust particles in the air. They used tiny particles of silica and aluminum phosphate, both common airborne substances, showing that silica became more negatively charged in the presence of high humidity and aluminum phosphate became more positively charged. High humidity means high levels of water vapor in the air 鈥?the vapor that condenses and becomes visible as "fog" on windows of air-conditioned cars and buildings on steamy summer days.

"This was clear evidence that water in the atmosphere can accumulate electrical charges and transfer them to other materials it comes into contact with," Galembeck explained. "We are calling this 'hygroelectricity,' meaning 'humidity electricity'."

In the future, he added, it may be possible to develop collectors, similar to the solar cells that collect the sunlight to produce electricity, to capture hygroelectricity and route it to homes and businesses. Just as solar cells work best in sunny areas of the world, hygroelectrical panels would work more efficiently in areas with high humidity, such as the northeastern and southeastern United States and the humid tropics.

Galembeck said that a similar approach might help prevent lightning from forming and striking. He envisioned placing hygroelectrical panels on top of buildings in regions that experience frequent thunderstorms. The panels would drain electricity out of the air, and prevent the building of electrical charge that is released in lightning. His research group already is testing metals to identify those with the greatest potential for use in capturing atmospheric electricity and preventing lightning strikes.

"These are fascinating ideas that new studies by ourselves and by other scientific teams suggest are now possible," Galembeck said. "We certainly have a long way to go. But the benefits in the long range of harnessing hygroelectricity could be substantial."

CNPq (National Council for Scientific and Technological Development) and FAPESP (The State of S茫o Paulo Research Foundation) funded the study.

please help me summarize this article in 6 - 10 sentences

also answer this question , How do you think the information in this article will affect agriculture or the environment? in 2 - 3 sentences

easy ten points ty , first come first serve|||Whew, that's a lot of words. But I'll try my best. Alrighty, here goes:

Do you think that capturing electricity is impossible? What about stopping lightning before it strikes? Well, think again.

At the American Chemical Society, scientists such as Fernando Galembeck have been researching how electricity builds up and spreads in the atmosphere to continue with their goal of creating devices that can prevent lightning. Using earlier theories of scientists, Galembeck's team discovered hygroelectricity, or humidity electricity. In this process, water in the atmosphere creates electrical charges and transfers them to objects it comes in contact with.

Galembeck added that it might be possible to create cells that could harvest hygroelectricity and use it as a power source. They would work more efficiently in humid areas, of course. Galembeck also stated that a similar approach could be taken for lightning, placing hygroelectrical panels on buildings to drain electricity out of the sky. Well, we'll just have to see, but these bright ideas could be the entrance to an even brighter future.

How do you think the information in this article will affect agriculture or the environment?

I think it will improve the environment. Since people wouldn't need to use electricity from power plants, less coal would be used and less CO2 would be released into the atmosphere. Then the air would be less polluted.

The main character, an African American woman in her early forties named Janie Crawford, tells the story of her life and journey via an extended flashback to her best friend, Pheoby, so that Pheoby can tell Janie's story to the nosy community on her behalf. Her life has three major periods corresponding to her marriages to three very different men.

Nanny, Janie's grandmother, was a slave who became pregnant by her master and gave birth to a daughter, Leafy. Though Nanny tries to create a good life for her daughter, Leafy is raped by her school teacher and she becomes pregnant with Janie. Shortly after Janie's birth, Leafy begins to drink and stay out at night. Eventually, she runs away leaving Janie with Nanny. Nanny transfers all the hopes she had for Leafy to Janie. When Janie is sixteen, Nanny sees her kissing a neighborhood boy, Johnny Taylor, and fears that Janie will become a "mule" to some man, so she arranges for Janie to marry Logan Killicks, an older man and farmer who is looking for a wife to keep his home and help on the farm. Janie has the idea that marriage must involve love, forged in a pivotal early scene where she sees bees pollinating a pear tree, and believes that marriage is the human equivalent to this natural process. Logan Killicks, however, wants a domestic helper rather than a lover or partner, and after he tries to force her to help him with the hard labor of the farm, Janie runs off with the glib Joe (Jody) Starks, who takes her to Eatonville.

Starks arrives in Eatonville (the United States's first all-black community) to find the residents devoid of ambition, so he arranges to buy more land from the neighboring landowner, hires some local residents to build a general store for him to own and run, and has himself appointed mayor. Janie soon realizes that Joe wants her as a trophy wife. He wants the image of his perfect wife to reinforce his powerful position in town, as he asks her to run the store but forbids her from participating in the substantial social life that occurs on the store's front porch.

After Starks passes away, Janie finds herself financially independent and beset with suitors, some of whom are men of some means or have prestigious occupations, but she falls in love with a drifter and gambler named Vergible Woods who goes by the name of Tea Cake throughout the story. She falls in love with Tea Cake after he plays the harmonica for her. She sells the store and the two head to Jacksonville and get married, only to move to the Everglades region soon after for Tea Cake to find work planting and harvesting beans. While their relationship has its ups and downs, including mutual bouts of jealousy, Janie now has the marriage with love that she had wanted.

The area is hit by the great Okeechobee hurricane, and while Tea Cake and Janie survive it, Tea Cake is bitten by a rabid dog while saving Janie from drowning. He contracts the disease himself. He ultimately tries to shoot Janie with his pistol, but she shoots him with a rifle in self-defense. She is charged with murder. At the trial, Tea Cake's black, male friends show up to oppose her, while a group of local white women arrive to support her. The all-white jury acquits Janie, and she gives Tea Cake a lavish funeral. Tea Cake's friends forgive her, and they want her to remain in the Everglades. However, she decides to return to Eatonville, only to find the residents gossiping about her.

and for future reference, we dont need that much info|||The card would fit in the PCI Express slot the motherboard has built in. However, you'll never run it to the extent you would want to with 250 watts of power. The card will need a lot of power to run, upwards of at least 350 watts of power, more than likely more. Need help proofreading!?

I have a scholarship essay due in 2 hours and need help with final proofreading. The prompt is "What does your chicano/latino experiences mean to you and how can achieving you educational goals help you contribute to the latino community?" I only need editing for the SECOND PART but i will post both parts to see if i am answering the prompt well. here it is:

PART 1

My Chicano experience has been a source of joy and direction, but also a real struggle: I’ve tried to forge my own identity from Mexican and mainstream U.S.A. cultures, and have confronted problems and obstacles along the way. These days, I’ve somehow learned to bridge the two cultures, which has helped me define who I am as a person. This process has also influenced my decisions to pursue a higher education and give back to the Latino Community.

Being the only U.S. born person in my family has been difficult for me, since no one was equipped to guide me through the U.S. practices and values that I would encounter in daily life here. I was awkward with the culture around me because it differed from the culture I practice domestically. As I grew older, I began to move further away from the culture my family had taught me. As I exhibited more “gringo- like,” behavior, my family became unhappy with my choices. I was reprimanded and ridiculed for everything from the lack of salsa on my tacos to linguistic mistakes in my Spanish. I began to feel confused as to why I was deemed as a cultural traitor for letting go of my culture to adapt to the much more prevalent culture outside of my home. My predicament was similar to the one Rodolfo Gonzales depicts in his poem, “Yo Soy Joaquin,” where the narrator has an internal battle between conforming to mainstream American culture, and attaining a “full stomach,” or staying “hungry” by keeping his Chicano soul.

During my sophomore year in high school I began to look for answers to why my experience as a Chicano had been so frustrating. I realized that I could not properly fit under any ethnic or cultural label and I didn’t have to. No label will ever able to fully “explain” me or my experiences. My goal is to promote this philosophy amongst the Latino community, particularly youth; I have already begun. During the fall I worked for a non-profit organization, Bay Area Community Resources, as an after school youth leader overseeing 15-20 ESL students at Global Families Elementary in Oakland. In my current position as an academic tutor at Fremont High School in Oakland, I work with a diverse student body, 40% of whom are Latino. These types of positions are fulfilling to me, and I’m planning to continue working with youth.

PART 2

I'm currently working towards receiving my Associate of Arts degree in Sociology at Chabot College. After completing the requirements for this degree I plan on transferring to San Francisco State University and pursing a Bachelors Degree in Sociology. My main goal is receive a Ph D. in Child Psychology and work as a youth counselor. By achieving my educational goals I want to become a new paradigm of success for the Latino community, and hope that with my achievements I could inspire youth to do the same. I will effectively assist Latino youth by guiding them through the same struggles I had to deal with, such as the cultural clash that often occurs when an adolescent spends the majority of their life in a region foreign to their parents and has to learn to satisfy both cultures simultaneously. I’m baffled by the decline of academic performance and drop out rates amongst Latino youth. Often when immigrant families arrive in the U.S.A. the most accessible jobs are those that are physically laborious. The mental burden of these jobs undermines a parent’s ability to provide emotional and academic support for their children. I want to help Latino youth with their education goals and facilitate their transition by helping them adjust to the cultural differences they will experience.

I’m confident I can impact the Latino community by providing Latino youth with the tools they will need to prevail. I have learned to triumph over the obstacles that come with being a Chicano and will teach Latino youth to do the same by applying my experiences as a Chicano and utilizing my education to help Latino youth succeed.|||Jack,

This essay is awesome! I am so proud of you, and I don't even know you! :-) I've made just a few suggestions, which you can take or not. It really is well written and nearly perfect in grammar %26amp; usage. Wow!

Best to you.|||wow nobodys gonna read that did u rilly think we would?

Which of the following is a true statement?

a. When you get out of a swimming pool and stand dripping wet in a breeze you feel colder than you would if your skin were dry. This is a purely psychological effect, since measurement of your skin temperature would yield the same value in both cases, wet or dry.

b. When the metal cooling coils in a freezer become coated with ice this helps the freezer more effectively remove heat from warm foods placed in the freezer.

c. In some regions the following sign is frequently seen as one approaches a bridge: "CAUTION: BRIDGE MAY BE ICY." One reason you might expect a bridge to be icier than the road leading up to it is that the bridge has both its top and bottom exposed to cold air, whereas only the top surface of the road is in contact with cold air.

d. Thermos bottles have a vacuum between the inner and outer layers of glass in order to reduce heat transfer due to radiation, since radiation cannot travel through a vacuum.

e. Several days after a snowstorm, the roof on Jones's house is uniformly covered with snow, whereas on Smith's house next door the snow has completely melted off. A likely reason for this is that Smith's house has better roof insulation than does Jones's.|||C not A hahah it is for sure C.

A has to do with the fact that the water on your body is actually colder than than your internal temperature, so you feel more heat being taken away from you.|||A

Kim Dae-jung was the first president to serve out his full term who came from the Jeolla region in the southwest, an area that traditionally has been neglected and less developed, at least partly because of discriminatory policies of previous presidents. Kim's administration was in turn overrepresented in individuals from the Jeolla province, leading to charges of reverse discrimination.

Kim's inauguration marked the first time in Korean history that the ruling party peacefully transferred power to a democratically elected opposition victor.|||I'm rearranging your sentence structure.

Do you know about the inhuman and unhygienic conditions at Willacy detention center , Raymondville, Texas?

This disgusting concentration camp is a blot on the landscape, a blight upon the reputation of decent Americans and a monument to its instigator, George Wa*ker Bush.

If more decent people in the USA knew how this place was run they would be protesting outside it with banners.

From the "Washington Post"

RAYMONDVILLE, Tex. -- Ringed by barbed wire, a futuristic tent city rises from the Rio Grande Valley in the remote southern tip of Texas, the largest camp in a federal detention system rapidly gearing up to keep pace with Washington's increasing demand for stronger enforcement of immigration laws.

About 2,000 illegal immigrants, part of a record 26,500 held across the United States by federal authorities, will call the 10 giant tents home for weeks, months and perhaps years before they are removed from the United States and sent back to their home countries.

About 2,000 illegal immigrants are being held in this detention facility in South Texas, awaiting deportation to their home countries. Some may wait months or years. (By Kirsten Luce For The Washington Post)

The $65 million tent city, built hastily last summer between a federal prison and a county jail, marks both the success and the limits of the government's new policy of holding captured non-Mexicans until they are sent home. Previously, most such detainees were released into the United States before hearings, and a majority simply disappeared.

The new policy has led to a dramatic decline in border crossings by non-Mexicans, according to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.

But civil liberties and immigration law groups allege that out of sight, the system is bursting at the seams. In the Texas facility, they say, illegal immigrants are confined 23 hours a day in windowless tents made of a Kevlar-like material, often with insufficient food, clothing, medical care and access to telephones. Many are transferred from the East Coast, 1,500 miles from relatives and lawyers, virtually cutting off access to counsel.

"I call it 'Ritmo' -- like Gitmo, but it's in Raymondville," said Jodi Goodwin, an immigration lawyer from nearby Harlingen.

An inspector general's report last month on a sampling of five U.S. immigration detention facilities found inhumane and unsafe conditions, including inadequate health care, the presence of vermin, limited access to clean underwear and undercooked poultry. Although ICE standards require that immigrants have access to phones and pro bono law offices, investigators found phones missing, not working or connected to non-working numbers.

With roughly 1.6 million illegal immigrants in some stage of immigration proceedings, ICE holds more inmates a night than Clarion hotels have guests, operates nearly as many vehicles as Greyhound has buses and flies more people each day than do many small U.S. airlines.

Gary Mead, assistant director of ICE detention and removal operations, said the agency is proud of its record, calling Raymondville "a modern, clean facility" that meets federal standards -- "which we believe are among the highest you'll find anywhere." Mead added: "We think the conditions of confinement there are both humane and consistent with all the rights they should be entitled to."

Despite its spartan conditions, the facility in Willacy County, 260 miles south of Austin, is a key to President Bush's drive to create a channel for temporary foreign workers and a path toward legalization for as many as 12 million illegal immigrants living in the United States.

To do so, the government must convince skeptics that it can credibly enforce laws aimed at illegal immigrants and their employers, and can hold and deport those caught by the U.S. Border Patrol. At the same time, the administration and its allies argue that even additional detention beds will be overwhelmed without new channels for legal immigration.

Accordingly, the United States has embarked on a huge prison building and contracting campaign, increasing the number of illegal immigrants detained from 19,718 a day in 2005 to about 26,500 now, and a projected 32,000 this summer.|||Raymondville is a lot further than just 260 miles from Austin. It is over 200 just to Corpus from Austin.

Is Raymondville one of the Wackenhut facilities? Prisons are privately run nowadays.

Why would illegal immigrants be sentenced to

Raymondville in the first place? Most of them are just sent home. I believe in amnesty for our immigrants because they are looking for a better life. Make them citizens and tax them.

If I was born in Nuevo Laredo, I would be swimming that river too.

By the way, it is extremely expensive to apply for citizenship. Make it more affordable and more people would go through the correct channels.

*San Antonio girl*|||And do you know what America does to immigrants???

Treating people like dogs is not going to do any good for them. They are uneducated people who don't know any better than this.

|||Do you know what Mexico does to people who sneak south across the border without the permission of the Federales?

They spend a big part of their lives in really dirty, dank, hungry group prison cells in Mexico.

So the ones that sneak across our USA border don't get any sympathy from me. I am not a fan of GW Bush, but I am a fan of LEGAL immigration. If they can't come here legally, let them be locked up until we put them on a nice clean bus back across the Rio Grande.|||It's a necessary evil. American citizens are already living worse then this in poverty stricken neighborhoods. I know i seen it and i lived it.

The country needs to stop illegal immigrants and keep our borders safe. Since a giant fence isn't enough to do it then we need to send a message to those that plan on crossing the border.
