Why did my Pioneer DVD player lock up on me?

I get this message on my TV screen...

(Player's Region Setting)

%26lt;1%26gt; : Region

%26lt;2%26gt; : Region

%26lt;3%26gt; : Region

%26lt;4%26gt; : Region

%26lt;5%26gt; : Region

%26lt;6%26gt; : Region

Pick out any one of these!

But it's a Multi-region player!. The message stays on the screen ALL the time and has locked me out of viewing anything. I can't pick any of the region numbers anyway because it's all locked! I've put in a region 4 DVD and it goes as far as playing the movie menu, but doesn't allow me to watch the actual movie. The message (above) remains on the top of the picture all the time. The same happens when I put in a region 1.

I've tried to change it to "USB" mode, but it won't allow me to view anything on USB either. I can't transfer between DVD and USB anymore. I checked the manual, especially troubleshooting, but there's no mention of this "message" I get on my screen.

When I turn the power on, it says "ON", then it says, what looks like, "480P", then it says "load", and finally it says "rE61", which I think means "Reg 1".

Does anyone know any tricks to get rid of this message on the screen?|||gl
